Merida

We are in Merida. Had great flight, and after a long cut at the cancun airport, caught a local bus into cancun with 15 minutes to spare to catch a executivo bus to merida. checked into a little place for $26 a nite, then had today to explore Merida.Really charming city , of archi, some boulevards, well populated plazas, good food, amazing amalgamation of yucatan, mayan and european, today we intended to go on to campeche , but we were so captivated that we spent the day here,. moved to a $16 a night place, right off the zocolo, and more quiet and picturesque than last night. (Last night our room had a ceiling fan with a loud "whomp!" in it with each rotation; we finally turned it off and perspired in peace) We continue to roam the streets. Tomorrow we´ll head to Campeche, but first there is a festivsal marking the beginning of Dia del Mueratos in the grand plaza. All today we watched people build the shrines with machetes and palm branches. But tonight there is a swing dance live Big Band music fest at a different plaza. CT and SC
